Before you start
- A Discord account with Manage Server. Season settings are changed only in the web console. There are no slash commands for seasons.
- The bot needs the in-house match features turned on. If they are off, the season settings do not appear.
- If you will use reward roles, the bot needs the Manage Roles permission, and the bot role must sit above the reward roles. Check permissions in The server permissions Kletoi needs.
A season is a period of in-house ratings (MMR). When the period ends, the bot saves that season's standings, pulls ratings back toward the starting value, and opens a new season. Each server turns it on or off, and it is off by default. While it is off, ratings and records simply keep adding up.
When a season starts and ends
- Start: turn on the MMR season switch and save, and season 1 starts right then. Turning it on for the first time does not erase ratings or records. Whatever has built up so far carries into season 1.
- Ending by itself: with the Auto rollover switch on, the bot ends the season after the period is over and opens a new one. It checks every 1 hour, so it can be up to about 1 hour late.
- Ending by hand: with the auto switch off, the season keeps going past its end date. An admin has to press the End season & start new button. You can also press it early even when the auto switch is on.
- Turning it off: with the MMR season switch off, no new season opens. A season already running is not ended, and while the switch is off there is no automatic ending and no end button. To end it, turn the switch back on and press the button.
- A season lasts 3 months by default. Type a number from 1 to 12 in the Season length (months) box.
- A season ends at the same local time of day, that many months after it started (not at midnight). Local means the time zone you pick in the Season timezone box (one of Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, New York, Los Angeles, Paris; default Seoul). Time zones with daylight saving do not shift the hour.
- Changing the length or time zone does not touch the season in progress; it applies from the next season. There is no setting to extend the season in progress.
- The start and end dates shown on screen are in UTC, so they can differ from the local date by a day.
What changes and what stays at the end
Saving the standings, pulling back ratings and Kleos, and opening the new season happen as a single all-or-nothing step. If anything fails midway, the whole step is cancelled, so it is never half applied. The DM and the role handout that follow run separately (see “What follows the end” below).
- Final standings: the final rank, rating and record of every member who played at least one game that season are saved as the season's wrap-up. Rank order uses the rating with its uncertainty counted conservatively.
- Rating: the gap between a rating and the starting value shrinks to 50%. Players above the starting value come down and players below it come up.
- Rating uncertainty: it goes back to its starting value, so ratings move more in the first games of the new season.
- Season games and wins: they go back to 0.
- Kleos score: on a server with seasons turned on, it goes back to 0 and a Season reset line is left in the history. The details are in Build up and review your Kleos activity score.
- Past match records and the rating history stay. The rating trend chart on a profile marks where each season started.
- Records fetched from Riot stay too, whatever the season.
- Tiers (tier badges) and total voice time do not go down. Server settings have no switch to recount tiers each season. Tier rules are in Voice mileage, tiers and badges.
- Each past season's wrap-up is kept. A member can open a past season's standings on their own profile.
A rating changes the moment a result is confirmed. A match you have not confirmed yet will count toward the new season's ratings after the end. Press the end button after you confirm the results of matches in progress. Confirming a result is covered in Confirm a result and enter records.
Turn on a season and set rewards
Open the season window
In the Custom games section, press the Season operation card to open the window. The line under the card shows whether seasons and auto rollover are on. The whole section is in Server settings at a glance.
Set the switches and length, then save
Turn on the MMR season switch. To let the bot move on by itself when the period ends, turn on the Auto rollover switch too. Set the Season timezone box and the Season length (months) box, then press Save.
The Current season panel in the same Custom games section shows Season 1 with its start and end dates.
Pick reward roles (optional)
Pick the Discord role to give for each rank bracket. There are 4 built-in brackets: 1stTop 3Top 10Season participant. If the server has no suitable roles, press Create reward roles. For each bracket with no role set, the bot creates one and assigns it, and brackets you already set are left alone. After picking, press Save. Seasons run fine without any reward roles.
- A member falls into only the highest bracket that fits. Rank 1 is 1st, ranks 2–3 are Top 3, ranks 4–10 are Top 10, and everyone else is in Season participant. Ranks are counted among the members in the wrap-up.
- A member in a bracket with no role gets no role. They are not moved down to a lower bracket's role.
- Type a number from 2 to 100 in the Add rank bracket box and press Add to add a Top N bracket. Including the built-in ones, there can be up to 8 brackets.
- A ⚠ beside a role name means it is at or above the bot's role, so the bot cannot grant it. Move the bot role above it.
With the Remove reward roles when the season ends switch on, at season end the bot removes the reward roles from everyone who has them, including roles an admin gave by hand, and grants them to the new winners. A winner who earns the same role again simply keeps it. With it off, nothing is removed and winners' roles pile up season after season.
The line on the Tier badges · Season rewards card shows how many brackets are set, in the form Season reward roles · 4/4 assigned.
Ending a season by hand
Press the end button
Press the End season & start new button in the Current season panel. The button appears only when the season switch is on and a season is in progress.
Confirm in the dialog
A confirmation titled “End this season?” opens. Press the End season & start new button inside it once more and the season ends. When it is done you see “Season ended and a new one started.”.
The Current season panel shows the new season number and new dates.
What follows the end
Once the season has ended, the bot carries on. First it sends members a wrap-up DM, then it grants and removes the reward roles, and if any role work happened it writes it to the audit log. If one step fails, the next still runs. It does not post a separate announcement in a server channel.
- A member who played at least one game that season and is in the wrap-up receives it.
- The server's Allow bot DM notifications switch must be on (Web console › Settings › New channel defaults). It is off on new servers (Server settings at a glance). The DM preview section in the Season operation window shows the same text.
- It is not sent if the member turned off Results & summaries in their own DM preferences panel.
- A member who did not get the DM can still see the same wrap-up on their profile, described in “What members see” below.
- Winners are granted their bracket's role. Someone who already has that role is not given it again.
- If a role is one the bot cannot handle (at or above the bot's role) or the bot lacks permission, that role is skipped and the member is counted as failed. The rest carry on.
- If any role was granted, removed or failed, the Audit log page keeps a “Season rewards distributed” entry.
- The Activity panel on the server home keeps Season ended and Season started rows with their times. Members can see them too.
- On the Audit log page, choose the Seasons option in the filter list at the top and apply it to see only season entries. A “Season rollover” entry appears only for a manual end, not for an automatic one.
- In Discord's member list, check that winners have the reward role.
What members see
1
- At the top of the Ranked leaderboard section there is the “Season N” name, a LIVE mark, the start and end dates, and a progress bar with days elapsed and left. When there are past seasons, pressing one opens its final standings.
- After a season ends, a Season recap card appears on the profile of each member in the wrap-up. It holds the rank, Final rating, Record, Win rate, the season reward received, and a Share link. It can be closed.
- Rewards received pile up in the Season medals row as bracket emoji tiles. With none yet it says “No season rewards yet”. The Season participant bracket is not shown as a medal.
- How to read the profile screen is in Your profile and match history.
The share link in the wrap-up DM and on the profile opens without logging in. It shows that member's server display name and profile picture, rank, rating and record. It records a closed season, so the link does not expire. If the member runs the /voice-meta forget-me command on that server, their wrap-up record is made anonymous and the link stops opening. What cannot be undone is in Delete your data or change privacy settings, and details are in the Privacy Policy.
We are preparing a way to see season medals on other members' profiles too.
Where to go next
Confirm a result and enter records: confirming results, which is when ratings change, and entering records. Your profile and match history: how a member reads tier and records on the profile. Build up and review your Kleos activity score: the activity score that goes back to 0 at a season change. Voice mileage, tiers and badges: the voice tiers that build up whatever the season. Weekly challenges: the weekly goals that add Kleos when met. The server permissions Kletoi needs: the bot permissions needed to give season roles.
Check it worked
The Current season panel shows the new season number, and the Activity panel on the server home has Season ended and Season started rows. If you set reward roles, winners have them, and member profiles show the Season recap card.
