Before you start
When you add the bot with the invite link, Discord asks for its permissions in one go. If you approve without one of them, only the features that use it stop working.
- An account with the Manage Server permission. Only people with it can run the permission check command.
What the bot asks for
view_channel: sees channels. It must see the trigger channel and the channel where you post the management hub.manage_channels: creates temporary voice channels and deletes them when they are empty.manage_roles: gives the room owner and invited people channel-only permissions. It also creates the tier badge roles (Voice mileage, tiers and badges).move_members: moves people from the trigger channel into their new room. AFK auto-move uses it too.connect: lets the bot enter the voice channel it moves people into. AFK auto-move needs both Connect and Move Members.send_messages: posts room panels and notices.embed_links: lets panels and notices show as cards.read_message_history: checks that a posted panel still exists. It is not an unused permission.create_instant_invite: creates the invite links that bring people into a temporary channel.
manage_guild(Manage Server): used only when you set or create the server's AFK channel in the web settings. Without it, just that feature turns into a re-invite notice.attach_files(Attach Files): attaches the match result card image. Without it, the result is posted without the image (Share cards and result cards).manage_events(Manage Events) may appear on the invite screen, but no feature uses it today.
What you see when one is missing
For example, if Manage Channels is missing, the person who joined the trigger channel gets this card by DM. If their DMs are closed, the same notice appears once in the trigger channel (or the report or system channel) and disappears after 10 minutes.
- When Discord rejects a command or button: “The bot is missing permissions to do that. Please ask a server admin to re-add (Authorize) the bot using the new invite link — re-adding it once stops this from recurring. You can review the required permissions with
/admin check-permissions.” If a command does not show in the picker at all, see The console is locked or commands are missing. - When you set a trigger or category: “The bot is missing the following permissions in that channel/category: move_members Please grant them and try again.”
- In the web console, when tier badges are on but the bot has no Manage Roles: “The bot does not have Manage Roles. Turn it on for the bot role under Server Settings and Roles.” Tier badges are covered in Voice mileage, tiers and badges.
- When you change the AFK channel in the web console but the bot has no Manage Server: “The bot doesn't have the Manage Server permission, so it can't change the AFK channel. Re-invite the bot to add this permission.”
Check and fix the permissions
Run the check command
/admin check-permissionsOnly people with Manage Server can use it.If everything is there, the Permission self-check card says “The bot has all required permissions. ✅”. If something is missing, its name is listed like this: “Missing permissions: manage_channels”. This command only checks the 9 required permissions above, server-wide. It does not check the optional ones or channel and category blocks, so look for blocks in step 3.
Turn on the missing permission on the bot role
Turn on the missing permission and save.
Check the channel and category permissions too
Check that the bot role is not blocked on the trigger channel and on the category where temporary channels are created. A channel block overrides a server-wide permission there.
Still missing? Add the bot again
Approve once more through the invite link with every permission left on, and the missing permissions are filled in. Your channels and settings stay as they are. If commands do not show, see The console is locked or commands are missing.
The bot role sits below the tier roles. Drag the bot role above them under Server Settings and Roles, otherwise renaming, granting and deleting all fail.
The bot role is not the matchmaker
- Bot role: a Discord server role. It decides what Kletoi can do on Discord. Edit it under Server Settings › Roles.
- Matchmaker: the person who runs in-house matches inside Kletoi. It is not a Discord role, so it does not appear under Server Settings › Roles.
- A matchmaker runs matches without the Manage Server permission, but only the matches they created. People who have Manage Server can run every match without being appointed (Who can press what · Appointing and revoking matchmakers).
Appoint a matchmaker with /matchmaker grant. You can also use Assign matchmaker on the Members page of the web console.
Where to go next
With the permissions in place, go back to the admin's first 5 minutes to finish the trigger channel and the matchmaker.
Check it worked
You are done when /admin check-permissions says “The bot has all required permissions. ✅”. Joining the trigger channel then creates your room.
