The Ones Who Answered the Call
See the first 5 minutesConnections arrive like coincidence
I treasure the connections between people. Even the smallest meeting can grow into a deep relationship someday.
The moments when we connect with someone are built from countless coincidences, and we can’t choose them. That’s why meeting a good connection feels as if someone called us.
I’ve met so many connections like that on Discord. We played together, talked through the night, and built relationships that lasted. Kletoi started there.
- The called
- Answered
Kletoi (κλητοί) is Greek for “the called.”
We were called, and we answered.
We were called. We answered.
Why good connections are hard to keep
On a Discord server there are plenty of people you’d like to spend time with. But there are more walls than you’d think before a connection lasts.
-
It’s hard to gather people to play. You call again and again to get ten people for one in-house match, and it often falls through anyway.
-
Newcomers find the first step hard. They can’t break into groups that are already close, and quietly leave.
-
An unfair match sours the mood. Teams get split with arguments, and everyone gets worn out by lopsided games.
-
Promises get light. When people keep dropping out without a word, it’s hard to trust and gather again.
-
The time you spent together leaves nothing behind. You had a great time, but no record or memory of that day is kept anywhere.
-
People leave because of those who are hard to be around. Sharp words, people overly sensitive about winning or losing, people who encourage abuse: good people leave the server because of them.
-
Moderators get worn out. Handling reports and making calls is subjective and there’s a lot of it, so it’s hard to decide lightly. Gathering, splitting and recording all pass through the moderators’ hands too.
-
Servers sit apart like islands. There’s no good way to scrim another server or to find people to play with.
What we think of as a “good person”
What makes a good person differs from one person to the next: how they speak, how they play with good manners, the ease of not clinging to wins and losses, fun conversation outside the game, a positive and humorous personality. We at Kletoi believed it’s impossible to measure these with objective numbers.
- How they speak
- How they play with good manners
- The ease of not clinging to wins and losses
- Fun conversation outside the game
- A positive and humorous personality
Instead, these people share one thing. They’re “people you want to spend time with again.”
Someone who crosses your mind in your free time, someone who’s fun to play with for no reason you can name, someone you can just talk to while the time flies, someone you can even share real-life worries with. We call these people “good people.”
What Kletoi does
Kletoi helps good connections form, last and be remembered.
- Form
- Last
- Be remembered
-
Easy to call and gather: Answer an in-house match with one button, and settle on a time with recurring matches and availability polls. Substitutes fill the empty spots.
-
A light first step: Temporary voice channels and knocking let anyone join a conversation easily. When a server turns it on, a welcome message and a “first 5 minutes” guide await newcomers.
-
A fair match: Teams are balanced by skill, and results are confirmed together.
-
The weight of a promise: No-shows are recorded, and a matchmaker can reverse them. Kletoi doesn’t abandon the call.
-
Time together, kept as memories: Match history, profiles, highlights, season recaps and “Our server’s story” keep the moments you shared.
-
Good people, easier to see: To the traces of time together, such as time spent in voice and records of answering in-house matches, we add the praise (marks of honor) and feedback players leave each other after a match. Good behavior builds up and shows. Moderators get records that help them decide.
-
A lighter load for moderators: Kletoi takes over channel cleanup, team building, result records and weekly reports. One web console is enough to look after a server.
-
Reaching beyond your server: We record scrims with other servers, and we’re building a way to find people to play with.
These features aren’t the end, they’re the beginning. We at Kletoi will keep listening and fixing, to help communities on Discord grow stronger.
